Wait, don't buy that PlayStation Portable! If you've held out this long, you can last until the new PSP 3000 is released sometime in October. The updated gaming portable offers a better range of colors, more contrast and an anti-reflective coating designed to improve outdoor viewing. There's even a microphone to support built-in Skype phone capabilities, at least in some markets (this was not officially confirmed for U.S., at least not that I saw). The unit will mostly sell in bundles with games and UMD movies at first but will eventually see standalone release in a $170 core pack. Colors include Piano Black and Mystic Silver (pictured)...

Hey Gamewatcher welcome back! I sometimes feel vacations make you more tired than a week's worth or work. I swear one of these years I will make it to PAX. I had to write in to tell you that I am no longer one of the lucky ones. After over two and a half years my 360 got the three red lights. It also needed the DVD drive replaced as well. Couldn't be worse timing, I am currently between jobs, and working on the background check for my new one and have 3 free weeks. I wasn't planning on getting PS3 since it was kinda out of my price range, and I didn't feel like there were enough exclusives to warrant a purchase. But with Blu Ray winning the war, and my 360 being sent off for repairs the first paycheck may go towards one.
Too bad about the Xbox 360. I'm still boycotting downloadable content until they can at least deliver a token effort to investigate and fix some of the remaining issues I'm encountering with the DRM transfer. You'll probably get a new console, so you'll have to do the same thing if you've bought or downloaded games, add-ons, etc.
It's hard for me to recommend the PS3 unless you want a Blu-Ray player and/or really love one of the franchises exclusive to it. I keep meaning to write up it's foibles as I did with the Wii and 360. It's not a bad console, but it's not a particularly great one either. At least not yet. We'll see what the PlayStation Home and trophies bring to it in the coming months.
