Price Drop - Xbox 360 cheaper than Wii (sort of)

Starting this Friday, September 5, the rumored Xbox 360 price cut becomes a reality:

  • Xbox 360 Arcade: $200
  • Xbox 360 Core: $300
  • Xbox 360 Elite: $400
This puts the low-end Xbox 360 at a cheaper initial price than the $250 Nintendo Wii, at least until you add-on a hard drive (as manyinevitably will). It's hard to compare the very different consoles since the Wii has 512 MB built-in memory for storage, and the Xbox 360 Arcade comes with a 256 MB memory card. However, the sheer volume of Xbox Live Marketplace content might necessitate the need for a $60-150 hard drive faster than you might shell out for a $30-50 SD card for your overflowing Wii Channel, Virtual Console and/or WiiWare downloads...

Microsoft Japan is already actually paying people to take the machines, with little success. "We hope more people will be able to enjoy Xbox 360," said marketing marketer Takashi Sensui, "and we can stop enjoying quite so many of them. We also have this fine pile of HD-DVD drives ... Wait! Come back!" http://notnews.today.com/?p=63
