(Mostly) Free Game - Legends of Zork

Legends of ZorkIf you're not a Zork fan, you're probably too young for this site. Or new to gaming, and there's nothing wrong with that. Here's your chance to get learned with Legends of Zork. This game is a multi-user dungeon, or MUD, which is what we used to play back before there were MMOs. The game borrows heavily from the original Zork text games, only with a graphical Web interface and options for player interaction including arena battles. You can play free daily until you use up your allotment of action points in battle or healing, and then you can choose to hang it up until tomorrow or pay for coconuts ($2-20 per bundle, or use Offerpal to get some for "free"). Coconuts are the in-game currency used to purchase perks such as more action points to keep playing. It looks like $20 will get you enough coconuts to buy 1200 action points, though you can only buy or use 2 potions per week which caps you at 400 extra moves every seven days...

It’s interesting to see this here, since I made a character for this game just this past week. While older, text based games were "before my time," I've read enough to be familiar with the concept, and I like the idea of creating games like this that acknowledge the waning types of gaming that were an important stepping stone to WoW and the rest.
