First Look - Halo 3: ODST

Halo 3: ODSTBy now, you probably know that Halo 3: ODST is a Master Chief-free expansion of the Halo universe featuring Orbital Drop Shock Troopers and set in New Mombasa. You might even know that the game is a virtual Firefly reunion featuring the vocal talents of Nathan Fillion (Mal), Adam Baldwin (Jayne) and Alan Tudyk (Wash). You could have even been exposed to marketing messages offering Sgt. Johnson as a playable character in the new Firefight co-op challenge mode if you preorder the Sept. 22 release from select retailers (Amazon, Best Buy, Buy.com, GameCrazy, Gamestop, NewEgg.com, Target, Toys R Us and Wal-Mart). But did you know that the game's 8-10 hour single-player campaign is inspired by film noir, complete with mystery-laden story, clue objects to be uncovered and saxophone-infused jazz score by Martin O'Donnell? At PAX '09, O'Donnell played a sample of the music and described the game's three hours of score, much of which will be released separately as a 2-CD set alongside the game. It's an unexpected direction for the series, but if it lives up to the promise it could be amazing...

I am a little disappointed they are using the Firefly voices again. Don't get my wrong I love Firefly. And support Nathan Fillion in everything he does. (from Castle to Jade Empire). But weren't these Marines with Master Chief in HALO 3? Yes, there were. They should have found another group from a TV show or movie to use.

Not quite what I meant, I understand it is a different story. I mean if Nathan Fillion, Adam Baldwin, and Alan Tudyk were already with Master Chief in Halo 3. I mean the actual people, not just “marines”. Then how can they also be on this ODST squad too? Wouldn’t that require them to be in 2 different places at once? Basically, it is the same voice talent as Halo 3 and I wish they would have chosen a different group. Maybe some more Battle Star Galactica talent? ( Katee Sackhoff was also in Halo 3)

I hope they can pull it off too. But when I first played though Halo 3 that was one of the best moments for me. Saying "Hey, that's Johnny! (Fillion's character from 2 guys and a girl). Then "Hey, that's Jayne! and Wash!" I didn't know they were in it when I bought it. So a really fun discovery.
