There's a new rhythm game in town, and this one's both free and done up in the storied tradition of 8-bit reimaginings. And, unlike some, it's actually playable!
Pixel Force: DJ Hero (from the maker of Pixel Force: Left 4 Dead) not only has the old-style graphics but the star of the game is the chiptune audio:
- "We Will Rock You" by Queen vs. "I Love Rock 'N' Roll" by Joan Jett
- "Ghostbusters" by Ray Parker Jr vs. "I Want A New Drug" by Huey Lewis & The News
- "You Spin Me 'Round (Like A Record)" by Dead Or Alive vs. "Peek-A-Boo" by Siouxsie & The Banshees
- "I Can't Wait" by Nu Shooz vs. "Look Of Love" by ABC
- "Thriller" by Michael Jackson vs. "Into The Groove" by Madonna
- "Need You Tonight" by INXS vs. "Layla" by Derek & The Dominos
That last song actually rocks pretty hard! The game is fun but tough to play with a keyboard: There are no difficulty levels and you'll need both hands to flip between the various button-based controls:
Scratch Up WIt might be worth grabbing a wired Xbox 360 controller and mapping the buttons to it. We had some problems downloading the game from the official EricRuthGames.com site. If it fails, nab the bits directly from Filedropper...
