Leave it to Sony to redefine bad customer experience. They launch their PlayStation Store updates Tuesday and if you don't grab them right away (or fail - the free Ghost Rider movie rental for this week was throwing errors all Tuesday morning!), you have to ensure a full day of downtime followed by a mandatory dashboard update.
Here's what you'll get in v3.60 of the PlayStation 3 firmware:
- PlayStation Plus online storage. If you spring for the $50 per year subscription service, you'll get the ability to backup your local save files to the cloud. You get up to 150MB of storage with a 1000 file limit, and it will even store "copy prohibited files" - aka those files the developers thought you might copy to cheat with. You can only restore once a day, so you won't be using this service to cheat unless you're very patient. More importantly, you can access you saves from a buddy's PS3.
- Controller Auto-off Setting. Yes, for the rest of us, all we get that might be useful is the ability to set the amount of time before your controller turns itself off to save its battery.
There might be more tweaks included, but that's all the firmware update screen showed and Sony hasn't updated their firmware details page yet...
ehh no biggies. I'm happy you guys get cloud storage, but I was never interested in it. That's an undebatable hard feature for your PSN+ guys.
I've been very satisfied with my controller auto-off. So I doubt I'll ever look at this. One day down, one day for upgrading.. you still have 5 days left, and it's not like this particular update feels empty. Ya'll getting cloud storage. That's the sort of thing that needs a firmware update.
