Wait, Don't Buy That! - Nintendo drops 3DS price to $170, promises 20 downloadable games to early adopters

Nintendo announced that less than six months from launch, it's dropping the Nintendo 3DS price to $170 on August 12. That's $80 less than the launch price, or the cost of two new retail games for the highly criticized portable (Busy Gamer first look).

Now, if you bought a 3DS already, Nintendo doesn't want you to feel burned. So they're making you a "Nintendo 3DS Ambassador" and offering 20 free and in some cases exclusive downloadable games:

NES Virtual Console games due Sept. 1 (early access): Donkey Kong Jr., Balloon Fight, Ice Climber, The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Bros. and five more to be announced.

Game Boy Advance Virtual Console games due by end of 2011 (Ambassador exclusive): Mario Kart: Super Circuit, Mario vs. Donkey Kong, Metroid Fusion, WarioWare Inc.: Mega Microgame$, Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3 and five more to be announced.

To be eligible for the free games, you'll need to login to the eShop on your 3DS before 11:59 p.m. Eastern time Aug. 11. Or wait until August 12 to buy one and put part of your savings toward a $20 Nyko Power Pack to replace the underperforming battery that comes with the 3DS. Honestly, Nintendo should have made it $190 and packed in a Nyko battery...
