We're Doom fans from way back, even publishing the MacDoom Review e-zine back in the '90s. We thought the Doom reboot was pretty good (though no Ultimate Doom) and we kinda peaced out on Doom Eternal.
Doom: The Dark Ages has too much story (the early games did fine without cutscenes) but otherwise seems to have recaptured the spark, at least in the gameplay. The new shield charge attack propels you ever forward and I even find a secret key near the end of my first run:
