To mark 10 years for its premier RPG series, Bethesda Softworks has released the first game, Elder Scrolls: Arena, as a free download at Elderscrolls.com. Tolkien fans will be thrilled to know that a group of modders are working on a Middle-Earth total conversion for the latest Elder Scrolls title, Morrowind. They're tight on details, but the game is set prior to the Fellowship and won't include elements that disrupt the Lord of the Rings timeline. So don't expect to find the One Ring lying around.
