I remember seeing The Plucky Squire revealed at some game event (or more likely one of those virtual events that have replaced game events) and thought it looked very cool. It features a storybook character who exits the book and explores the real world around him.
A year later I finally picked it up and gave it a try. It starts as a very well done game within a book (that alone is quite fun and funny). It took more than 30 minutes to get ejected from my story so I went a little long so you can see the expanded world mechanics in action:
