I don't always like card battle games or roguelikes, and the jury is still out for me on Balatro - which uses poker hands as its base but then amps it up with modifiers.
It's almost as fun as it is confusing. There are all sorts of modifier cards and rules that aren't clear at first, but the more you play the more you get it. I tour through all of the fun themed (and free!) card packs like Fallout, Assassin's Creed, and Slay the Spire and then jump into the brief but mostly lucid tutorial.
The whole time I was playing I was terrified of pressing Y (to discard) instead of X (to play a hand) - which I only messed up once, I think. Also there's no benefit to putting down five cards if only four score, and if you're going to do a discard on a round do all the cards you want to ditch together as it counts as one discard.
