The trailers for Death Stranding left me cold, so I pretty much ignored it (also, I prefer Xbox to PlayStation so it's rare for me to plunk down for an exclusive). The surprise release of the Director's Cut on Xbox Series X/S and its generally positive reviews got my attention, but I've gotta say the opening of this game is vexing. I've heard the biggest complaint is that it's something of a walking simulator, but I don't mind a good walking game if the story and/or game mechanics are good. So far, the story is freaking weird and the mechanics for exploring, balancing, and collecting and delivering packages across a wasteland are promising.
I went a little long because much of this is cut scenes with a little gameplay interspersed - just enough that you can gauge whether it'll be your sort of game:
