I played some Hollow Knight back in the day, but never beat it. I did make quite a bit of progress, which is why I was surprised when the first mini boss in Hollow Knight: Silksong repeatedly kicked my butt. I was inclined to blame this on the kitty cat who insisted on pinning down my non-dominant arm in a cuddle while I played, which threw me a little off balance. But I tried again after the video stream was off, and I think I just suck.
Either way, you can gauge from my tactics that I was getting better and came pretty close at one point to defeating the Moss Mother (which I have finally done):
