Raiders of the Lost Ark was a major touchstone of my youth, so I cleared out 250GB of storage (it requires more than its 130GB footprint to install) and burned about a tenth of my monthly Internet bandwidth cap to relive my childhood. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle starts with you playing the iconic opening of Raiders, which is basically as you remember it and thus most action sequences are heavily scripted.
After this, things open up a bit so you can use a map to navigate. Then there's a little combat and a mild puzzle to solve before the new story kicks off proper:
